Dreadful Sorry (Discovery) (star) (star) (star)
The alterna-country duo of Amy Allison and Ryan Hedgecock–formerly of the Maudlins and Lone Justice respectively–takes some getting used to, but their strange blend of vocal styles should interest the same folks who found Emmylou Harris’ format-bending “Wrecking Ball” to their liking. The daughter of jazz vocalist Mose Allison, Amy has a deep nasal twang that creates a discordant, almost gothic, contrast to the more grounded Hedgecock.
