A short-term flood-relief plan for the Aerohaven subdivision received Village Board approval Tuesday.
Trustees agreed to spend $21,600 to slow the storm water that flows across Gear Drive from the Wildwood subdivision into the Aerohaven neighborhood.
A check valve, a berm and additional inlets along Gear should ease the Aerohaven flooding problem, according to village engineer Ron Franciskovich.
Some of the flooding that deluged Aerohaven during mid-July’s record downpour came from water that rushed in from Wildwood, bypassing inlets and a detention pond, Trustee Dave Batson said.
The project won’t interfere with a large-scale drainage study of Aerohaven and surrounding areas, Batson said.
The $47,500 study is designed to pinpoint a long-term solution to regional drainage woes.
The short-term plan will be reviewed by the consulting engineer.
