– Aug. 31: Texas Tech at Kansas State

The first Big 12 shootout between former members of the Southwest and Big Eight conferences.

– Sept. 14: Michigan at Colorado

The Wolverines will try not to relive one of the more memorable plays in college football history: the deflected Kordell Stewart-to-Michael Westbrook bomb that beat Michigan 27-26 two years ago in Ann Arbor.

– Sept. 21: A triple-header

Florida at Tennessee for the SEC East. Notre Dame at Texas for intersectional bragging rights. Nebraska at Arizona State for the heck of it.

– Sept. 28: Ohio State at Notre Dame

Not as enormous as last year’s epic, but close, especially if the Irish survive the previous week’s trip to Austin.

– Oct. 5: Big Ten double dip

Rose Bowl hopes are on the line with Michigan at Northwestern and Penn State at Ohio State.- Oct. 12: Florida State at Miamit’s the first big game of the season for the Seminoles, who haven’t won in Miami since 1984.

– Oct. 19: Iowa at Penn State

If the Hawkeyes are for real, they will prove it here.

– Oct. 26: Alabama at Tennessee

Important only if the Vols defeat the Gators. Also keep an eye on Texas at Colorado and Ohio State at Iowa.

– Nov. 2: Northwestern at Penn State

Wildcat fans believe this one will matter a lot.

– Nov. 16: Penn State at Michigan

It has been one of the Big Ten’s better rivalries. It may decide who goes to Pasadena.

– Nov. 23: Rivalry time

Alabama vs. Auburn in Birmingham; Michigan at Ohio State and USC at UCLA.

– Nov. 29: Colorado at Nebraska

Winner represents the North in the first Big 12 title game.

– Nov. 30: Florida at Florida State

The winner has played for the national title two of the last three years.

– Dec. 7: Championship showdowns

It’s playoff time in the Big 12, SEC and WAC.
