Monee Township’s request for a zoning variance has moved a step closer to reality, with a public hearing scheduled for Sept. 18 at the Village Hall.

Village planning and zoning officials have approved the public hearing on allowing township officials to expand their facility’s south end to within 2 feet of the property line. Current zoning on the property requires the building to be at least 25 feet from the property line.

Village President Larry Kochel is actively supporting the zoning variance. Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals members also have supported the vote in a straw vote.

But members of the Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals noted nearby residents may voice a different perspective at the public hearing.

A variance, if approved by the Village Board, would enable township officials to add up to 23 feet to their cramped facility, on the south side of the village.
