Two local teenagers accused of burglarizing a home in the 600 block of Caren Drive were released from Lake County Jail Sunday after posting bonds of $50,000, authorities said.
Jeremiah Cheng, 17, of 374 Dogwood Terrace, and Anthony Vucko, 17, of 836 Clohessy Drive, were charged with residential burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle early Saturday after police arrested Cheng near a home in the 600 block of Caren Drive that a resident said was being burglarized at 4:19 p.m., authorities said. The resident said he spotted the teens walking through his home with a flashlight before he called police.
Cheng was arrested when he became entangled in a fence in the neighborhood during a foot chase with police, according to reports. Vucko initially escaped from police, who used dogs and an Illinois State Police helicopter during their search but later was implicated by Cheng and arrested at his home, police said.
The two youths entered the home with a garage door opener, which they found at an undisclosed location in the neighborhood, they said. Cheng and Vucko also took items from unlocked vehicles in the neighborhood, police said.
A mobile telephone and other items were recovered by investigators, they said.
