A senior-citizen housing developer predicts ground could be broken in late October on a complex expected to house more than 100 elderly residents.

“The way our schedule looks, (the ground-breaking) probably will be Oct. 27,” said Michael Pizzuto, general manager of the Hinsdale-based Stough Group. “That’s a pretty firm target,” he said, adding that construction could be completed by August 1997.

Pizzuto said the 13 single-story buildings would house about 80 units–inhabited by tenants who are at least 62 years old. Plans call for giving priority to three groups: current village residents, then relatives of current residents, and finally former residents who left Steger because suitable housing was unavailable.

Pizzuto said his firm, with advice from Steger officials, had named the proposed 7.16-acre development “Steger Centennial Village,” a reference to the village’s 100-year anniversary in 1996.
