Gabriel T. Robinson, 20, who pleaded guilty to a single charge of aggravated battery, was to have been sentenced Tuesday in Kane County Judge Barry Puklin’s courtroom, but scheduling conflicts caused a delay.
Mendez, 19, was on his way home from work late on Oct. 27, 1994, when his car ran out of gas on Aurora’s east side. As he was getting gas for his car, several gang members accosted Mendez, believing he was a rival gang member.
The attackers beat and kicked Mendez and one fired a single gunshot into his head, killing him.
Robinson was one of 10 men initially charged with first-degree murder. Three others have also agreed to plea arrangements, one was acquitted in a jury trial last year and another, Taurus B. House, is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty last month.
