Since Kane has enjoyed a bit of a financial windfall from the disposal of tons of debris damaged by last month’s floods at county-owned Settler’s Hill Landfill near Geneva, the County Board opted Tuesday to place the extra dollars into a fund that will help pay for drainage renovations in flood-impacted neighborhoods.
During its scheduled August meeting Tuesday, the board voted unanimously to transfer an undetermined number of dollars to the development department for flood-related use at the department’s discretion. According to the resolution, funding will not exceed $10,000 for any individual project.
The torrential rainfall that poured nearly 17 inches on parts of the southern third of Kane on July 17-18 prompted President Clinton to declare Kane and 14 other northern Illinois counties federal disaster areas.
