A resident eluded a state police helicopter and officers from other law-enforcement agencies after deputies from the Cook County sheriff’s office tried to serve him with a warrant Tuesday night.

The search started about 10:15 p.m. after two sheriff’s deputies arrived at the door of Steven Muchoney, 501 S. Windsor Drive, to serve him with a warrant for an unspecified contempt-of-court charge out of Lake County. The warrant’s bond was set at $8,100.

While standing at the door, Muchoney allegedly pushed one of the deputies aside, causing the deputy to fall down the stairs. Muchoney then fled, said Bill Cunningham, a spokesman for the Cook County sheriff’s office.

The deputies called for backup from the Arlington Heights Police Department and the Illinois State Police, which scanned the area with its helicopter.

The search was called off about midnight, police said.
