Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Q. I am presently in a new relationship with a terrific guy; however, I am still madly in love with my ex-boyfriend. At times I feel as though I’m only with this new guy because he reminds me of my past boyfriend. I have the opportunity to get back together with my ex-boyfriend but I don’t want to hurt the guy I am with now. What is your advice to me?

A. Oops. You have to make a choice. Before I could give you any advice, I would have to know why your relationship your ex-boyfriend ended in the first place.

But if you really do feel strongly about this old flame, I would tell your new boyfriend as soon as possible that your relationship is over.

You might think that you are protecting him from being hurt, but the longer you avoid breaking up with him, the only thing you are doing is making the eventual pain worse.

Maybe the two of you can remain friends, but whatever happens, you owe him an honest assessment of your intentions.
