Police on Monday issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in a weekend shooting that wounded three men.
A group was in a nightclub parking lot at 1816 Washington St. just after 12:15 a.m. Saturday, when several of them began arguing, according to police.
The argument escalated into violence when one suspect brandished a 9 mm, semiautomatic handgun and started shooting, possibly from the window of a car, said Lt. Paul Hendley.
“By the time he was through, three people had been shot,” Hendley said, noting that the suspects fled in a car.
Initially, police thought there were only two victims but later, a man walked into the emergency room at Waukegan’s St. Therese Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Investigators then determined he was wounded in the same incident, he said.
That man, Noren King, 21, of Waukegan, had been shot in the face. He remained in fair condition on Monday afternoon, said a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
The other two victims were identified as Oscar Ruiz, 21, of Kenosha, and Brian Vincent, 20, of Waukegan. Ruiz, who was shot in the stomach, remained in good condition on Monday. Vincent, who was shot in the leg, was treated and released.
Hendley said investigators are trying to determine if two guns were involved in the shooting. He would not speculate on a motive and declined to release the suspect’s name until an arrest is made.
