Orestes Kindelan and Juan Marnique hit home runs for Cuba in the victory over Nicaragua, raising the team’s tournament total to 30. Both were three-run homers. It was Kindelan’s eighth home run of the Olympics.

“If we can take back those two pitches, we win that ball game,” Nicaragua coach Van Tassell said. “Unfortunately, those balls are still traveling to the moon. They hit them a long way.”

Said Kindelan: “After you hit one home run, they just keep coming. You really don’t know how to explain it.”
