The Curriculum Council consists of 18 teachers and administrators. The district, whose students are from Park Ridge and Niles, is seeking eight parents or community members to put a new perspective on things.
“We feel that it is necessary to have both parents and community members on the board. It gives a different perspective,” said Maureen Buckley Jones, community information specialist for the district.
In addition to reviewing curriculum proposals, the council also helps facilitate communication between parents, teachers, the school board and the administration.
The additional members will include six parents–one from each of the district’s five grade schools and one from Lincoln Middle School–and two adults who may not have children in the district but live within its boundaries.
Anyone 18 years of age or older who lives within district boundaries may apply, school officials said. Applications are due Sept. 15.
Meetings will be held every fourth Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. at Educational Services Center, 164 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge.
Those interested should send a resume and cover letter stating why they want to become a member to Dr. Jerry Hawver, assistant superintendent of curriculum, School District 64, 164 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, Ill. 60068.
