Q. I am 62 and my wife is 58. Up until I was 50, we used to have sex almost every day. We started cutting back about that time, and now we have sex every two weeks or so, though sometimes it stretches to a month.

My wife is content with having sex once a fortnight, but I have heard that too much sex can be unhealthy for a man, possibly causing problems with the prostate. What are your guidelines on this subject?

A. There is no evidence that I know of that too much sex will cause problems with the prostate, but I am not a urologist, and so my advice is that you should consult with yours and ask that question.

As far as frequency is concerned in general, as long as both partners are satisfied with the frequency, then you have nothing to worry about it. However, if you are cutting back because of a medical condition that probably doesn’t exist, then that would be a shame.
