A longtime village employee has been appointed to Downers Grove’s top economic development spot.

Ellen Dean has been named the new economic development director for the village, replacing former director Peggy Blanchard, officials said Tuesday night.
Blanchard left the post in January for a similar one in the northwest suburbs. Dean, 28, has been acting economic development director since Blanchard stepped down.
As director, Dean will help guide the Economic Development Commission, which is planning the redevelopment of downtown.
Dean was chosen from a pool of about 50 applicants, officials said.
