The Elmhurst Historical Society is donating $50,000 to renovate the community’s one-room schoolhouse known as Old Fischer School.
This is the main portion of the historical society’s commitment for the total refurbishment cost of $70,000 in the project for the building owned by Elmhurst Unit School District 205.
A retired educator employed by District 205 teaches elementary schoolchildren about the building used as a one-room schoolhouse in the late-1800s.
Renovation will include the addition of a restroom and kitchen to accommodate meetings and other activities.
