Despite a resounding “no” vote at a joint committee meeting this week on a resolution to pay board members a yearly salary instead of on a per-diem basis, County Board Chairwoman Dianne Klemm asked the Finance Committee to present the issue again to the full board.
The committee agreed to present a resolution at the next board meeting. Board members are currently paid $75 each day that they attend at least one meeting. The resolution would give board members an annual salary of $8,000.
At a joint meeting Tuesday of the Legislative and Public Affairs, Management Services and Finance Committees, a majority of the board members voted against the proposal.
County administrator Bill Barron said the current median salary for the 23 board members, at $75 per diem, with an average of eight meetings per month, is $7,228. However, Klemm and Barron said the number of meetings is expected to increase to 10 or more per month.
