Blackhawks goalie Ed Belfour and forward Murray Craven missed Saturday night’s Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals with what apparently was stomach flu. Both became sick Saturday morning. Craven did not appear at the morning skate, but Belfour did. Then, after returning to the team’s hotel, the goalie became ill again.

Jeff Hackett made his first-ever playoff start in the nets for the Hawks. He was 1-2 against the Avalanche during the regular season.

Sergei Krivokrasov, who had not played since spraining a knee March 17, replaced Craven in the lineup. Belfour had won all five games he started in the playoffs and had a sparkling 1.52 goals-against average and .948 save percentage. Craven scored the tying goal in the Hawks’ 3-2 overtime victory in Game 1 and had the game-winner in the Hawks’ lone regular-season win over Colorado.
