For the mom who has most everything, a county substance abuse awareness and education agency is suggesting a gift from the heart this Mother’s Day: A certificate, suitable for framing, that proclaims her to be a “special mom.”
The Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse is selling the certificates for a suggested donation of $30. Council officials are hoping that sons and daughters everywhere will agree that it’s the thought that counts on May 12.
Money raised by the first-ever sale will be used to support the agency’s Women and Children’s Center in North Chicago, which helps moms with substance abuse problems.
Opened in 1994 with money provided by a federal grant, the center, at 2031 Dugdale Rd., provides daily substance abuse treatment, child care and transportation for up to 25 women.
