A key revision to DuPage’s moribund Adopt-a-Highway program was approved Tuesday by County Board members.
Responding to an obvious lack of interest experienced so far, the county has dropped its requirement that civic and volunteer groups obtain $2 million in liability-insurance coverage before being allowed to participate in the program. Instead, the county will pay $1,500-a-year for an umbrella policy to cover possible mishaps.
DuPage officials had wanted to limit the county’s liability in the event of an injury, but the requirement that groups obtain their own insurance coverage had discouraged interest in the program.

Also Tuesday, County Board members approved a reorganization of DuPage’s federally funded jobs training program. Included in the reorganization plan was the elimination of 15 full- and part-time positions, effective June 28.
The positions are being eliminated partly as a result of cutbacks in federal funding.
