Never mind the newly configured EU; there’s not a whole lot that Europeans agree on for designer ready-to-wear collections.
In Milan, the Italians-not to mention a few like-minded Americans and Germans who show there-still favor clean-lined commercial fare, while Parisians-not to mention the Belgians, Brits and Japanese who show there-will always favor more experimental wear.
On whichever side your sartorial predilections may wander, you will find some common themes this fall: lean silhouettes; odd mixes of color; skinny trousers; asymmetrical attitude; daytime sequins and glitter; lush knits; animal prints; pantsuits upon pantsuits; and pinstripes that will have you looking as though you worship at the altar of menswear.
But fear not: No matter how wacky an ensemble might look on the runway, by the time that same outfit hits the stores several months from now, it’ll be refined and wearable.
