A man was put to death Friday for killing his adoptive parents a month after getting out of prison.
Prosecutors said he killed them for their insurance money.
James B. Clark Jr., 39, was executed by injection in a converted mobile home behind the maximum-security building at the Delaware Correctional Center near Smyrna. He had pleaded guilty and refused to appeal his sentence.
Just before he was executed, Clark yelled to his lawyer, Jerome Capone, “Hey, Jerry, hey listen, my soul is free, man. I’m in no more pain, you know. Thanks for everything, all right?”
Clark shot his parents to death in May 1994, a month after being released from prison where he had served 21 years of a 30-year sentence for assaulting a child.
