Buoyed by last year’s success, Kane County has announced dates it will collect used motor oil throughout the county.
In the first year of collections in 1995, more than 1,800 people gave more than 25,000 gallons of oil, said Gary Mielke, county recycling coordinator.
The oil is refined again into motor oil or used for energy recovery in industrial boilers, Mielke said.
Collections will be taken on several Saturdays throughout spring and summer beginning April 27 at the Carpentersville Village Hall. Other collection dates and sites are May 11 at the Aurora Recycling Center; June 22 at the County Highway Department garage west of St. Charles; July 13 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva; July 27 in Hampshire; Aug. 24 in Elburn; Sept. 14 at the Elgin Public Works complex and Sept. 28 in Montgomery.
