The Fox Waterway Agency has changed the location of its April board meeting to accommodate the crowds it expects for a hearing on a proposal to impose a 35 m.p.h. speed limit on the stretch of river that runs through Johnsburg.
Last month, at least 200 boaters turned out to protest the proposal. This month’s hearing will be held at 8 p.m. April 25 at the McHenry High School, West Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Rd.
Last month’s gathering, which took place in Grant Community High School, drew residents from all along the Chain o’ Lakes system.
Johnsburg village officials in February asked the agency to hold a public hearing on a possible speed limit to enhance safety and reduce shoreline-eroding waves. Only the waterway agency has the authority to impose a speed limit.
