We already know that George Balanchine wore khakis. Not to mention Miles Davis, Jack Kerouac and Greta Garbo.

Now, if the denizens of design have their way, so will you.

Once the province of preppies and soldiers, these sand-colored trousers are suddenly trs chic again.

The khaki was spotted on the runways at Chanel, worn slung across the hips and jazzed up with a jacket that costs enough to feed a family of four for a year.

If you prefer your trousers to have a shiny finish, opt for the polished cotton of chinos. But if you prefer them on the rugged side, then khakis are more your speed.

This spring, anything goes. You’ll find khaki in ultra baggy, sleek and fitted pants or in spandex-enhanced leggings.

So it doesn’t matter.Dress them up, dress them down.
