A McHenry County judge has ruled that a 16-year-old from Woodstock suspected of being a gang member can be prosecuted as an adult in the shooting of a 23-year-old Wonder Lake man Feb. 29.
Circuit Judge Sharon Prather upheld a petition filed by Assistant State’s Atty. Christine Bedard to transfer the youth to adult court. Bedard argued that state law allowed the transfer because of the seriousness of the allegations.
Charges against the youth include attempted murder, armed violence, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm.
The youth’s attorney, Ralph Madsen, did not object to the transfer but later, outside court, declined to say why.
The youth is accused of using a .22-caliber pistol at close range to shoot a 23-year-old man, on Wonder View Drive near Michael Street in an unincorporated area east of Wonder Lake. The man has recovered from the chest wound.
