Arranmore
Another Chapter (CS Records) (star) (star) (star)
Folk legend Tommy Makem turns up as a guest vocalist on Arranmore’s latest release, proof that the Chicago-based quintet hasn’t totally forsaken its Irish roots. But even longtime fans who have followed the band’s move in recent years from traditional Irish tunes to contemporary folk fare may be surprised by just how far afield they have roamed. The potpourri of styles includes Cajun, blues and gospel, with Arranmore’s catchy version of Zachary Richard’s “One Kiss” and an evocative cover of Steve Earle’s “My Old Friend the Blues” among the most appealing cuts.
