An elderly Vernon Hills man was killed over the weekend when he apparently pulled out in front of a car while trying to merge onto Illinois Highway 137 near U.S. Highway 45, Lake County sheriff’s police said Monday.
George E. Dachs, 77, was taken to Libertyville’s Condell Medical Center and then airlifted to Froedtert Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m Sunday, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office.
His wife, Irene, 66, was a passenger in the car, but she was not injured, according to Lt. Chester Iwan.
Iwan said Dachs was trying to turn left into the eastbound lanes of Illinois 137 from a frontage road at about 4:15 p.m. when his 1987 Ford Taurus collided with a 1990 Cadillac Seville driven by Richard Nicholas, 50, of Round Lake Park. The Seville struck the Taurus on the driver’s-side door, Iwan said.

Dachs’ car spun around and collided with a third car that was eastbound on Illinois 137. The unidentified driver of that car was not injured.
Nicholas was treated for minor injuries at Condell and released, Iwan said.
