The public is invited to a hearing Wednesday on a plan to expand the landfill owned by Browning Ferris Industries Inc. at 301 Green Bay Rd.
The purpose of the hearing is to collect public comments on the landfill plans before state environmental regulators make a final decision on whether to issue a permit for the expansion.
Company officials want to expand the landfill on 75 acres east of the landfill. The landfill would accept non-hazardous special waste and municipal waste.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is expected to make a final decision on the plans by May 25. Comments are due by May 15.
The permit application is available for public inspection at the Zion-Benton Public Library, 2400 Gabriel Ave., Zion.
