Village officials voted Wednesday to oppose proposed state legislation they said would take eastern Will County planning and development out of local hands.
The Village Board voted 5-0 against the proposed South Suburban Airport Area Development Act, based on the recommendation of board member Dale Patterson.
Patterson, the board’s watchdog in matters related to the proposed south suburban airport, likened the board action to “just one bullet in the ammunition belt” against airport-related restrictions.
He said the act is vague and assumes a south suburban airport will be built, though the act could be implemented without an airport being constructed.
