The police department, fresh from cracking down on railroad crossing scofflaws, is turning its attention to stricter enforcement of seat-belt regulations.
Extra officers will ticket motorists who fail to buckle up or secure their children in child-safety seats, police said. The announcement comes one day after the department began citing commuters who disobey railroad crossing signals at the Mt. Prospect depot.
Motorists caught not wearing a seat belt will face $25 fines. The penalty for failing to secure a child in a safety seat is $25 the first time and $50 for every violation thereafter, police said. The crackdown runs Feb. 11 to 24.
