player ready...The marquee matchup for Saturday night’s Spring Valley Shootout between Peoria Manual and Proviso East had it all: two teams that own four of the last five Class AA championships, top-flight talent on both sides.
It had it all, all right–everything except the head coaches.

Manual (19-2), ranked fourth in the state, outscored Proviso 15-5 in the final four minutes to earn the victory.
The Rams played without injured starters Sergio McClain and Frank Williams yet wiped out an eight-point halftime deficit with a 23-10 spurt in the third quarter. Tim Caldwell led Manual with 21 points, while Reggie Davis had game-high honors for the Pirates (14-5) with 31.
“Their size made a difference, especially in the third quarter,” said Proviso assistant David Holmes. “We kind of got tired, and our shots started falling short a little in the fourth quarter.”
