An 18-year-old St. Charles woman died late Monday of head injuries apparently suffered in a snowmobiling accident in Campton Township.
Kelly Popelka was pronounced dead at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood hours after she and a 19-year-old male companion were found lying near Silver Glen Road west of St. Charles in unincorporated Kane. A snowmobile was found nearby.
The companion, William T. Wyatt of Elburn, was listed in fair condition Tuesday with abdominal injuries at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva.
A motorist reported seeing the teens to Kane County sheriff’s police about 1 a.m. Monday, but police said they had no witnesses to the accident and no details as to how it may have occurred.
