U.S. Secret Service agents have taken over the investigation of three counterfeit $100 bills, which were passed earlier this month at a local department store, according to police.
The first two bills were discovered Nov. 14, when bank officials notified the Wal-Mart store, 930 Mt. Prospect Plaza, that the fake bills had been deposited with receipts from Nov. 11.
Three days later on Nov. 17, a clerk told police he accepted a $100 bill from an unidentified man that another area bank later determined was counterfeit, police said.
