About 76 residents of a seniors’ independent care center were evacuated earlier this week after carbon monoxide spread throughout their building, according to fire officials.
A maintenance man called the Barrington Fire Department after smelling what he thought was a gas leak at Good Shepherd Manor Barrington, 445 E. Main St.

Fire Chief David Danley said the carbon monoxide spread from the boiler room through a vent pipe in the building. The problem has been corrected and residents were expected to be allowed to return to their homes Wednesday afternoon, Danley said.
No injuries were reported.
Fire officials have since begun installing carbon monoxide detectors in the building.
