Due to mechanical difficulties, next week’s special meeting of the Ft. Sheridan Joint Planning Committee has been changed to the Highland Park City Council chambers instead of at the historic base.
When they met a couple of weeks ago at their regular location in the auditorium of Building 47, the sound system that served the microphones failed and forced committee members to raise their voices so all could hear.
Earlier this summer, the committee was forced into other quarters because the air-conditioning was unable to keep up in the intense heat.
Next week’s meeting will be to discuss whether or not to negotiate directly with the Army to buy the base’s 100-acre historic district or whether to allow the Army to sell the historic property directly to a developer.
The meeting begins at 1 p.m. Monday in the Highland Park City Hall.
The fort has been closed for the past two years and, since then, developers and city planners have been scrambling to determine what to do with it.
