Gasp!: The American Lung Association’s Lake County Region is trying a new fundraising gimmick that should help curtail smoking in the long term but might promote it on that tension-filled day when raffle ticket buyers are waiting to see if their $50 ticket comes up a winner for the 1995 Beemer, or 318i BMW, from Knauz Motors in Lake Bluff.
The association bought the car at cost and expects to clear $20,000 to $22,000 in the raffle. And, of course, one person will drive away beaming.
The money will be used to instruct youngsters on the evils of smoking, according to Alan Klinc, an administrator with the association’s Lake County branch. The 1,000 tickets are about half sold. For information on the Oct. 14 drawing, phone 708-295-5864.
