A chef’s dream: Although pastry chef Gale Gand’s flight home from Cambridge, Mass., landed a few weeks ago, the Buffalo Grove resident has yet to touch ground.
Gand, half the dynamic chef-duo (with executive chef-husband Rick Tramonto) at Evanston’s Trio restaurant and Northfield’s newly opened Brasserie T, just returned from cooking apron-to-apron with legendary chef Julia Child.
The cooking session, spread over three days at Child’s Victorian home off Harvard Square, will be part of a new book and television series to be released next year called “Baking with Julia.”

“I’m a chapter in the book,” Gand said excitedly. The chapter, “Phyllo,” features her recipe dubbed “not your usual lemon meringue,” along with recipes for a chocolate Napoleon and a raspberry and vanilla sandwich of crispy phyllo fettuccine.
“Imagine an evening sitting around talking and eating with Julia Child in her home. This was like a pilgrimage,” Gand said. The 38-year-old wryly added, “How do you top this? It’s what every chef dreams of. I’ve peaked at a young age. I’ll have to change careers.”
