Homewood-Flossmoor’s Class 6A championship is a thing of the past.
Thornwood made sure of that last week, humbling the defending state champs 28-0.
But Homewood-Flossmoor is nothing if not resilient, as it proved Friday night with a gutsy 18-13 SICA Blue victory over Lockport.
“We’re still not playing well,” said Homewood-Flossmoor coach John Wrenn. “The seniors have to grow up and accept responsibility. We have to improve if we want to make this team a success.”
Chris Holiver’s 81-yard punt return for a second-quarter touchdown gave Homewood-Flossmoor (3-1, 1-1) the lead for good at 12-7.
H-F blocked two Lockport (2-2, 0-2) field-goal attempts on the final drive before halftime.
In the second half, Jermane Shegog blocked a Lockport punt and returned it 54 yards for a score as the Homewood-Flossmoor special teams scored twice.

Stewart, filling in for injured Herschel Dixon, carried 20 times for 131 yards.
