Free blood pressure screenings have resumed with the hiring of Madeline May as city public health nurse.

In addition, cholesterol screenings will be provided for $3, according to village officials.

Blood pressure and cholesterol screenings began Saturday and will be conducted on the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at the Des Plaines Mall, 700 Pearson St., and on the first Thursday of the month, starting this week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 101 in City Hall, 1420 Miner St.

Appointments are necessary. Call 708-391-5480.

Screenings had been discontinued in June due to the resignation of former public health nurse Nancy Fornoff, said Arlene Merriman, director of human resources and services.
