Lake-Cook Road, which carries 40,000 cars on a normal day, is scheduled to be closed from Milwaukee Avenue to Portwine Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the next two Saturdays.

The Cook County Highway Department will be closing the road in the area of Riverwoods, Buffalo Grove and Wheeling to allow a contractor to complete construction of a bridge for pedestrians and horses that will span Lake-Cook just east of the Des Plaines River. The bridge will connect trails in the Cook County and Lake County Forest Preserve Districts, according to the Transportation Management Association of Lake-Cook.
A 200-foot bridge truss will be assembled first then hoisted by cranes to span the road.
The eastbound detour will use Milwaukee Avenue to Dundee Road to Sanders Road, and the westbound detour will use the same roads in the reverse order.
