The city could grow by 721 more homes if a proposed west side planned unit development is accepted as presented this week by a local development company.

Appearing in what could be the first of several presentations before the city’s Plan Commission, representatives of Geneva West Corp. pitched their vision for 413 acres west of Randall Road between Bricher and Keslinger Roads.

Called Fisher Farm, after the family that once owned the homestead, the development would consist of 429 single-family homes and 292 attached units on more than half the acreage.

The other half would be a mixture of commercial and office development, open space, an 11-acre school parcel, a neighborhood center and even a possible site for a senior housing project.

The open space of parks, lakes, landscape buffers, and pedestrian and bicycle trails could equal nearly one quarter of the total project.

Community Development Director Michael Donahue said the proposal is consistent with the city’s comprehensive land-use plan.

Negotiations over the project, which the planning staff is recommending the commission approve, have been ongoing since 1989, he said.
