Don’t you think there should be a day each year when kids can just be kids? (It could be a sort of reward for the times you’ve resisted tormenting your little brother or sister.)
Taylor Kingrea, a 9-year-old girl from Baton Rouge, La., thinks kids deserve their very own day and is doing something about it.
On Father’s Day (no doubt after digging into her piggy bank for a gift for Dad), she asked her mom why there was no special day for kids – a day when “Mom didn’t say clean your room (and) parents should … do what the kids enjoy,” she says. Her mom told her that every day is kid’s day, and that if she didn’t like it she should do something about it.
So Taylor did. She’s now going door-to-door in her neighborhood collecting signatures on a petition to declare every third Sunday in July (this year: July 16) as National Kid’s Day. No national signature drive is planned.
The petition reads: “We, the kids of the U.S.A., we all know grown ups think kid’s day is every day but it’s not!” Taylor says Kid’s Day should include presents and a trip to “one place where (kids) want to go.”
