A local man faces multiple charges after police alleged he was driving erratically Wednesday night, even causing two police detectives to drive out of their lane.

Police said Bruce Isaacson, 31, of 12 N. Casper Ave., was driving east on Central Road when he began tailgating two Arlington Heights detectives in an unmarked car. He then allegedly pulled alongside the detectives and closed in on their lane, causing the detectives to veer their car, police said.

Police said Isaacson made obscene gestures at the detectives and surrounding motorists. He then turned north on Arlington Heights Road, where the detectives stopped the 1988 Chevrolet Nova he was driving near Orchard Street, police said.

Inside Isaacson’s car, police said, the detectives saw several empty beer cans and what looked like a gun and handcuffs on the passenger seat. Those items, however, as well as what appeared to be a badge, turned out to be toys.

When the detectives asked why he was driving erratically, Isaacson reportedly said he was upset because the other drivers “are crowding me in.”

He was charged with driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, improper lane usage and improper turn. He is to appear in court July 20.
