Homeowners can expect to pay about 20 percent less for their monthly electrical bills beginning this summer after the City Council voted Monday night to approve a new residential rate structure.
The action was recommended earlier this month by a council subcommittee based on a study prepared by an outside consultant.
The money-saving rates, which take effect July 1, were made possible by the savings the city realized in its wholesale electricity costs after signing a new 10-year purchase contract with Commonwealth Edison last winter.
