After police arrested a local man on charges of allegedly selling marijuana to an undercover officer, they allegedly got his permission to search his apartment.
What they found turned out to be the largest stash of marijuana ever seized in the village, according to Elk Grove Village police Sgt. Gordon Hollywood.
Police said they found 83 pounds of the drug, worth about $180,000, being dried by electric fans in the bedroom of Daniel Cavazos Jr., 38, of 433 Perrie Drive.
Police arrested Cavazos last week after he was accused of selling an undercover officer three pounds of marijuana outside a bar in the 2300 block of Old Higgins Road in unincorporated Elk Grove Village. Police said it was the third time Cavazos, under police investigation for about a month, had sold marijuana to the undercover officer. He then gave officers permission to search his apartment, police said.
Cavazos was charged with three counts of delivery of cannabis and one count of possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. His bond was set at $50,000.
Police delayed releasing information about Cavazos’ arrest to determine the extent of his alleged drug operation, Hollywood said.
