Teachers at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy have rejected for the third straight year a bid by the Illinois Federation of Teachers to become their collective bargaining agent.

In a Monday ballot, 25 teachers voted for the IFT, but 35 educators cast their decision for no representative.

The IFT’s defeat was by a wider margin than last year, when the union was three votes shy of victory.

Catherine Veal, the academy’s communications director, said the three-year, state-supported, residential high school will continue to have teachers working in committees to resolve issues.
