The land, known as the Lorenz property, is south of Illinois Highway 176 and next to 82 acres of high-quality wetlands that the district acquired last fall. Last week’s purchase increases the county’s forest preserve holdings to 19,136 acres.
In addition to adding to the land near Lakewood, the district board also approved a long-range plan for the Lake County Museum at Lakewood. As part of that plan, $1 million will be spent on a wing on the building’s north side.
About 30,000 people visit the museum annually. Forest Preserve officials estimate that will increase to 50,000 by the year 2000.
