Kirk Johnson, a high school quarterback from Tennessee, has accepted a scholarship to Illinois, he and his father announced Saturday.
The Illini recruited Johnson, a student at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tenn., to replace a quarterback recruit who backed out on his letter of intent. Chris Redman decided to attend Oklahoma when Illinois coach Lou Tepper fired offensive coordinator Greg Landry.

Johnson is a Blue Chip magazine all-American. He expects to redshirt this fall.
“The main thing for me was just the coaches I talked to,” Johnson said of a trip to Champaign last week. “They’re more sincere than any others I’ve talked to.”
Tepper could not be reached for comment.
