The owner of a Richmond gravel pit was released on his own recognizance Monday after he appeared in McHenry County Circuit Court on a charge of mining without a permit.
Jack Pease, owner of Glacier Lake Extraction, a 65-acre pit on Keystone Road, has been charged with two misdemeanors alleging that he has operated the mine without a state permit.
Pease has pleaded not guilty to the first charge, filed in February. The second charge was filed last week.
McHenry County has filed a civil suit against Pease, alleging he doesn’t have a county permit.
No trial date has been set for the criminal charges or civil suit. Pease contends that he has a valid state permit, one that was transferred to him by his former business partner.
